As keepers of the World’s Best Lasagna recipe, we take our baked pasta very seriously. Preparing comforting layers of sauce, noodles, and cheese is the ultimate act of love in the kitchen, but it pays to have the right type of pan for the job. You’ll need one that’s deep enough to keep your melty mozzarella from bubbling over and sturdy enough to hold generous portions of ingredients. There’s also the matter of material; is it best to go with glass, stainless steel, or stoneware?

To help find the best lasagna pans for our favorite layered pasta, we asked the Allrecipes Allstars—our dedicated team of expert home cooks—to try a few top-rated models in their own kitchens. After testing the pans with several different recipes, they shared their insights and top picks.

Why It's Great: Budget-conscious; deep enough for tall lasagnas; includes a lid for easy storage and transport

Grain of Salt: More susceptible to thermal shock

We love this glass lasagna dish so much that we tested it on two separate occasions—once with Allstar Kim Shupe and again with Allstar Amanda Scarlati—and it excelled both times. Glass is an excellent option for lasagna because it allows you to monitor cooking and makes cleanup more manageable. Top it with the included Pyrex lid to save leftovers in the refrigerator or take the entire pan to a family potluck. (Hint: it will fit perfectly in one of our favorite casserole carriers.)

In tests, Allstar Kim praised this glass Pyrex for its nearly 4-inch-deep sides, excellent for piling on the lasagna layers without worrying about cheese or sauce bubbling and overflowing in the oven. Despite the size, it still felt balanced even when filled. She also tested it with cinnamon rolls, which came out fluffy and had plenty of room to expand. “If you are someone who regularly makes deep-dish lasagnas or casseroles, or wants super tall cinnamon rolls, then this pan is for you,” she says.

Allstar Amanda appreciated the large capacity and durable material—although she found the handles to be on the smaller side. However, the attractive glass design makes it easy to use as a serving dish, and it also won’t stain or retain odors from your food. Both Allstars found this dish to be extremely easy to clean both by hand and in the dishwasher—always a plus when it comes to baked-on or extra-crispy lasagna cheese.

Note that this glass lasagna pan is made using tempered glass rather than borosilicate glass, so it can’t handle drastic shifts in temperature. It’s still plenty durable, but we still suggest allowing the glass to warm to room temperature before placing it into your preheated oven, just to be safe.

Why It’s Great: Extra-tall lid; durable, nonstick coating; corrugated surface helps facilitate air circulation

Grain of Salt: Small handles; hand-wash only

If you have a big family or simply want to make enough lasagna for leftovers, this large lasagna pan will help get you there. While most lasagna pans fall within the 9x13 range, this one is just over 10 inches wide, 16 inches long, and 3 inches deep. Even better, it comes with a generously sized lid with some extra height to it, so you won’t accidentally ruin your lasagna’s cheesy top layer. The corrugated surface and nonstick coating allow for even air circulation during cooking, and they easily release your pasta once it is ready to eat.

Allstar Amanda is no stranger to the USA Pan brand and already had several different sizes in her kitchen before testing this one. After making two kinds of baked pasta, a batch of glazed meatballs, and a package of bacon in this pan, she reported that it was just as easy to clean as the others, thanks to the durable nonstick coating. “They are not dishwasher-safe, but the coating they put on the metal makes them super easy to clean up, even if there are burnt edges or cheese,” she says.

It cooked food evenly and produced a crispy edge all around. “The metal design and crisp corners allow for not only crisp edges on top but also crisp edges and good crust on the bottom,” she says. “Nothing burned or got too brown, and it held up well under the broiler.” Since the handles are a bit smaller than others and the metal material is slick, she suggests using a kitchen towel or oven mitts with extra grip.

Why It's Great: Unique design; easy-to-clean with a nonstick coating; can double as a loaf pan

Grain of Salt: Widths of the rows are narrow

“This is a super fun and innovative way of baking lasagna,” says Allstar Terri McHugh. “The dish allows for three separate trays of four to five layers of lasagna.” This way, you can divide your lasagna rows according to allergies or ingredient preferences (such as vegan lasagna) or even bake three different recipes all at the same time. The sections are designed to accommodate the size and shape of a standard lasagna noodle, so you won’t have to spend time cutting them to fit. You could also use it to make bread or meatloaf.

Despite the low price, this unique lasagna pan performs well in the oven and has a durable, heavy-duty construction. The nonstick coating helps food slide out effortlessly and makes it easier to clean.

In tests, the noodles fit perfectly in the pan, though Terri struggled a bit to find a spatula that was thin enough to cut and serve from the narrow sections. The lasagna came out evenly cooked, and the cheese browned beautifully even when covered with foil. Although the manufacturers recommend hand-washing this pan, Terri did run it through the dishwasher during testing and reported no issues.

Why It’s Great: Available in several different colors; attractive design can go from oven to table; durable stoneware

Grain of Salt: Heavy; pricey

Maybe it’s the porcelain enamel glaze finish or the vintage stoneware design, but there’s something nostalgic about this Le Creuset lasagna pan. We love the color selection that ranges from dusty rose Shallot to deep teal Agave, all of which are beautiful enough to serve directly from the oven. It’s designed for lasagna, but it would work equally as well for other pasta dishes, casseroles, and baked fruit cobblers.

Terri was a fan of this dish’s stylish aesthetic but noted that the weight made it more difficult to carry than others, especially once it was full of noodles. However, the wide, curved handles help with grip. “It's definitely on the larger side, so you can feed a large group with this one,” she says. “It cooks everything evenly!”

The dish produced a delicious-looking lasagna with a beautifully browned top, and it was easy to clean in the dishwasher. Like most Le Creuset products, this is on the pricier side but worth the investment.

The Details: Stoneware with enamel glaze finish; 13.5 x 9.25  x 3.25 inches; oven-safe up to 500°F; dishwasher-safe

Why It's Great: Durable, high heat-resistant material; riveted handles for easy transportation; includes dishwasher-safe lid

Grain of Salt: Lid can be difficult to remove

All-Clad makes a lot of our favorite cookware, and this lasagna pan is no exception. It’s slightly bigger than most of the other pans on our list—but we’re certainly not going to complain about an extra-large lasagna. What’s more, the added size also means you can use it for more than just pasta.

The cutout handles make this pan easier to maneuver—but keep in mind that they do get quite hot and retain heat after coming out of the oven. It’s made using 18/10 heavy-gauge stainless steel, which is ideal for even heating and added durability. The hefty plastic lid is a bonus that allows you to travel with the pan and store leftovers in the fridge.

Allstar Terri loved the versatility of this All-Clad lasagna pan during tests—it worked just as well for four-layer lasagna as it did for sides like Brussels sprouts. The sturdy material performed well under the broiler, and everything cooked evenly in the oven. When it came to cleaning, a few minutes of soaking helped loosen any stuck food, and the rest washed up nicely in the dishwasher. “It looked just as great as when I took it out of the box,” she says. “Super convenient to clean!”

Our Takeaway

The Pyrex Deep Baking Dish with Lid has everything you could ever want in a lasagna pan for a reasonable price. The glass dish is deep enough for tall lasagnas and includes a lid for easy transport or leftover storage. If you want to experiment with different lasagna recipes or just have a little fun in the kitchen, the Chicago Metallic Professional Lasagna Trio Pan also performed very well in our tests.

How to Pick the Right Lasagna Pan

Material

Lasagna pans can be made out of glass, stoneware, nonstick aluminized steel, stainless steel, and others—and there are plenty of home cooks who have their own opinions on what’s best. If you’re not sure, consider factors like weight, price, and ease of cleaning when choosing your lasagna pan since these can largely depend on the material.

Steel pans will heat up more quickly and retain heat for those perfectly crispy edges. They’re also the more durable option. Ceramic pans can be easier to break or chip, but they’re also pros at conducting heating and will look the best on your dining table. Glass pans, like our top pick, are generally easier to clean, known for cooking evenly, and allow you to monitor the cooking progress.

Size

When it comes to lasagna, it’s all about the layers. That’s why you need to pay special attention to not only the length and width of your pan but also the depth. Look for a pan that’s as close to 3 inches deep as possible, though a bit more is ideal if you don’t want to worry about your sauce and cheese bubbling over the edge. The depths of the pans from our tests range from 2.6 inches to 3.85 inches.

Most of the lasagna pans we recommend are 9x13 inches in size, but we also included a few oversized options on our list for larger groups or families. The ideal lasagna pan size for you will depend on the size of your household and available storage, but the great thing about this type of bakeware is that you can also use it for dishes like casseroles, roasted vegetables, desserts, and other baked pasta recipes

Heat Resistance

Lasagna requires a lot of baking time (our favorite lasagna recipe hangs out in the oven for about 50 minutes at 375°F), so you’ll need a pan that can take the heat. Look for one that’s oven-safe up to at least 400°F to ensure that it can withstand high temperatures for an extended period. A pan with a higher heat resistance and broiling capabilities comes in handy if you want a little more browning on the top.

About Our Tests

We turned to Allstars Amanda Scarlati and Terri McHugh to test lasagna pans using several different recipes. In their own home kitchens, they looked for distinguishing factors like whether food stuck more easily to some pans than others, heat conduction and retention, and whether the pans were easy to move in and out of the oven. Overall, the Allstars paid special attention to the following attributes:

  • Design: Does the pan feel balanced when filled, or is it awkward to hold? Are the sides high enough to contain deep-dish lasagnas? Are the handles comfortable and large enough to grab while wearing oven mitts? Can you serve in this pan? Does the finish scratch easily? Does the pan feel like it's made to last?
  • Performance: How evenly and thoroughly does the pan bake? Does it create a good crust with lasagnas and casseroles? Does the dish heat up too quickly or get too hot? Can the pan handle the broiler?
  • Cleanup: Is it easy to clean? Do any parts require extra effort to clean? Is it dishwasher-safe?

Common Questions

What kind of pan is best for lasagna?

We’ve tested other types of pans—like bundt pans—for lasagna in the past and found the preparation tedious and the results underwhelming. Our advice? Stick to a rectangular 9x13 or slightly larger pan for the best lasagna. You can also make a sheet pan lasagna with a regular baking sheet for a simplified version. If you’re part of a smaller household, a deep, square baking dish can work as well, though you may have to cut your lasagna noodles to size first.

How do you layer lasagna ingredients in a pan?

We're firmly in the camp of "sauce, noodles, cheese, sauce, cheese, repeat." Starting with a layer of sauce on the bottom of the pan helps keep the lasagna from sticking and makes cleanup easier. The process may take a bit longer than other baked pasta dishes, but it’s absolutely worth it.

Can you freeze leftover lasagna?

Yes! Freezing lasagna is a great way to save leftovers and meal prep for the future. With most recipes, you can wrap the lasagna in one layer of storage wrap and another layer of aluminum foil to freeze for up to three months. If you have a reusable freezer container, even better! Brands like Souper Cubes offer larger sizes with matching ceramic dishes that are designed to heat individual portions conveniently.
