Aldi’s New Pizza Is Gooey, Chewy, and Not at All What You’re Thinking

Not to be confused with Mama Kelce, the mom who raised two football players you may have heard of (including one currently dating Taylor Swift), Mama Cozzi is the name of the fictional Italian mama that Aldi uses on its line of frozen and refrigerated take-and-bake pizzas, flatbreads, calzones, and more. 

There are dozens of variations of the pizzas that rotate throughout the year, including smoked pulled pork with BBQ sauce in the summer, a heart-shaped take and bake in February, and Christmas tree- and star-shaped frozen options in December. 

While the popular pizza options may be diverse, there’s usually one constant: it takes the form of some sort of pizza, flatbread, or calzone. There’s been one Mama Cozzi product that’s come and gone before that has eluded our attention, and discovering it exists was an unexpected but pleasant surprise because it’s not technically a pizza.

Instagram’s theamazingaldi recently posted photos of two good finds in the take-and-bake section. The first was one of Aldi’s rotating flatbreads with a seven-layer dip-inspired topping. The other is called a pizza, but nothing about it resembles a pizza except that it’s round and as enticing as a pizza. 

The product that really caught our attention is the chewy, gooey, chocolate chunk pizza cookie, nine whole ounces of already-baked chocolate chip cookie that’s ready for heating and eating and, if you’re generous, sharing.

“Need that cookie,” one of the commenters said. “There’s nothing as good as a large chocolate chip cookie,” said another. We agree.

It’s so quick to take this cookie from box to oven. Simply unbox the refrigerated cookie and place it in its foil tray (looks a bit like a foil pie plate) directly on the middle oven rack in an oven preheated to 425 degrees F (218 degrees C). In about three minutes, you’ll take it out of the oven and decide whether to eat it as-is or smother a slice with a topping.

If you’ve ever had a thick, warm, gooey chocolate chip cookie before, you’ll know it’s perfectly delicious on its own, but it’s also a great base to add toppings such as vanilla ice cream, salted caramel sauce, or peanut butter fudge topping.

The cookie isn’t on Aldi’s website at the moment, and the Instagram post didn’t give the sweet treat’s price. We can see that last year, the pizza cookie was just $3.99, and we imagine with how Aldi usually tries to keep its prices low, it’s either the same price or just a bit more this year. 

That makes it a chewy, gooey, chocolate-chunk bargain.
