These are delicious! Sadly I ruined them, but I learned from my mistake. I put the lid on the storage container before they were completely cooled. I went back for a nibble later and found them to be soggy. I had even put a slice of bread in there to avoid that. It would have been fine if only I had let them cool first. I microwaved them in hopes of crisping them up again. That didn't work, it ruined them. My brother came in from outside and asked why the house smelled like skunk cabbage! Like I said, I learned a lesson. I'll definitely try again!
I changed this up a little, but used the same 4 ingredients. I used 9 apples and 1 cup of water (which turned out to be the perfect ratio!) I kept the 1 tsp of cinnamon the same and reduced the brown sugar from 3 to 2 tbsps. I cooked it longer too, about 1.5 hours. Absolutely delicious! 3 stars because I think the measurements were way off if using only 2 apples!
It tasted great but it gave everyone in the house really bad gas. Because of that reason only, we won't be having it again. It's not an error on my part nor were any of the ingredients spoiled.

Didn't use the crushed red pepper but I don't use that in any recipe, ever. Meatballs were wonderful!
