I love simple recipes that are packed with flavor. My mom cooked this way without recipes. Just fat, spices, salt and garlic.

Toni Odom reviewed Diana Hagewood Smith’s Barley, Lentil, and Mushroom Soup Recipe. 02/13/2022
This was very good. I could not find the first kind of mushrooms listed here so I just substituted a mix of mushrooms from my local market. The second time I made this I doubled the thyme and pepper and sherry. I also added a can of tomatoes and some spinach. I thought that made it better. I really like the lentils and barley together. I will add this to my monthly rotation menu.

I will make this again. The only thing I changed was I didn’t have potato starch so I left that out. It was very good. Next time I will add some thyme and celery seed.

This came out beautiful! It gelled on my first try. I did add a cup of Marsala wine instead of the vinegar. It tastes wonderful.

I loved this stew. I did follow some of the other reviewers advice and add more broth to my stew. I did not have wine so I added a tablespoon of red vinegar in its place. I will make this again and plan to have all the ingredients in my pantry.

Toni Odom reviewed brookelyn’s Healthy Baked Steel Cut Oatmeal Recipe. 10/24/2016
I will make this again. It is great for a quick morning breakfast. I did not have any raisins so I left them out and added flaxseed blueberries and orange zest. My husband who does not usually get excited over oatmeal really loved it. ( I drizzled his with honey) I think it was a wonderful low sugar recipe. Mine did not turn out cake like. It was moist. The texture was close to regular oatmeal. I would say baked rice comes out like rice and this comes out close to just being oatmeal. Baking it over the weekend just made my morning routine easier during the week.
