As a Canadian I have problems getting recipes right because US cups are different from Canadian cups. Would be simpler and easier if recipes include quantities in grams. It turned out to be almost cloying with the salt and sugar...Otherwise, this is a good recipe and I'll make it again. Good for a posh meal to impress dinner guests. I'm surprised how flavorful this is while being so simple. I followed the recipe to a T, measuring out all the ingredients. It worked out to two small onions and 1 whole pepper each. The peppers and fresh herbs give this so much flavor. The water cooks down with the olive oil while it infuses with the peppers, onion and thyme flavors; making this a nice oil based sauce. The rotini is perfect for this type of recipe as the grooves hold in all the sauce. Make sure to use Barilla Plus rotini, not regular rotini!!!! I love the flavor of this pasta, it's not the starchy bland white pasta, it's made with flax, spelt, oats, barley and legumes. It has a nice bite, but not as chewy as whole grain pasta. The kids ate it and didn't say a thing about the pasta being different. It has a nice golden color, and doesn't fall apart. I think if this was made with regular white pasta it would be rather bland. You could bulk this up more by adding sweet Italian sausage, mushrooms or use chicken or beef stock instead of the cup of water called for. Even a tablespoon or two of tomato paste mixed in can make it a little more hearty for Fall and Winter. Overall a great, healthy meal that I will definitely make again! Helpful (4) Barilla® Linguine with Black Pepper and Pecorino Romano Cheese 10/30/2015 Wow, I am so surprised with how good this is!! Toasting the crushed peppercorns is brilliant! This opens up the pepper and releases the oil from the peppercorn into the olive oil, infusing it with so much more flavor. I thought it might be overpowering, but you get such a different, deep, delicious flavour from the pepper. So using freshly crushed peppercorns is a must! I love Pecorino Romano so I used a whole 1/2 cup in this. I also would use freshly grated cheese, you just can't get the same flavour from the pre-ground powdery cheese in the containers. Using Linguine is also a perfect pasta pairing, you get a good bite and chew from the thicker noodles, and it soaks up the sauce better. I love this and will definitely make it again! I paired this with roasted chicken and a tomato salad, perfection! Helpful (5) Barilla® Spaghetti with Lemon, Parmigiano Reggiano and Basil 10/20/2015 Love it! Light and refreshing. A perfect side dish to Chicken Picatta or Scallopini. You could easily add sautéed garlic and onions for more flavour; but as written it's a quick no cook sauce that is perfect for summer! Make sure to zest carefully so you don't get the white bitter pith. The zest should not be bitter! The juice can be bitter if your lemons are not ripe, so you can try using Meyer lemon's for a sweeter lemon taste. Helpful (7) Barilla® Farfalle with Cherry Tomatoes, Fresh Buffalo Mozzarella Cheese, and Basil 10/19/2015 I loved this simple pasta dish with Caprese flavours. One of my favorite flavor combos! I'm lucky to live in an area that makes authentic buffalo mozzarella. This dish really depends on the quality of ingredients you use, so use the freshest tomatoes and basil. Delizioso! Helpful (3) Loaded Caramel Apple Bars 09/27/2015 This is delicious and very easy and quick to make! I'm only giving it 4 stars because I thought it was too much sugar. Thankfully I only used 1 cup of sugar and it was plenty sweet! There is still the extra sweet with the caramels and glaze, so 1 cup of sugar is plenty if you use granny smith apples. If you used a slightly sweeter apple you might want to reduce the sugar to 3/4 cup. To combat the extra sweet I sprinkled a little sea salt over the top, it goes so well with the caramel! I also used 12 caramels in this as it covered a little more evenly in the pan. I will definitely make this again! Helpful (0)
