FDA Announces Recall of 2 Million Doughnuts & Pastries Over Listeria Risk—Including Some Sold at Dunkin'

Over two million doughnuts and other pastries, including some varieties of doughnuts sold at Dunkin’, were recalled last month after they were found to be potentially contaminated with the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes. The recall encompasses a total of 2,017,614 cases and includes several varieties of doughnuts, including cake, yeasted, jelly-filled, Bavarian, French crullers, coffee rolls, apple fritters, and two flavors of Munchkins.

According to a report released by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the doughnuts and other pastries have the “potential for contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.” The voluntary recall was initiated by Indiana-based manufacturer FGF Brands on Jan. 7, 2025, but it was classified and shared by the FDA on Feb. 5, 2025. The status of the recall is listed as ongoing, but the affected pastries are no longer being sold and are already expired.

Which Doughnuts and Pastries Are Included in the Recall?

There are 60 varieties of doughnuts included in the recall. Though FGF Brands distributes in the United States and Canada, according to a statement the brand put out, "The voluntary recall only applied to donuts products in the U.S.”

All of the recalled products were produced on or prior to Dec. 13, 2024, and are within expiration. In its statement, FGF Brands asserted that the recall was initiated out of an abundance of caution and that "no donuts or food contact surfaces ever tested positive for listeria.” It added, "The voluntary recall was completed over a month ago (early January), and does not implicate anything that is currently, or was recently on the market.”
