Spicy and Savory Broiled Turkey Burgers

4.8

These spicy and savory broiled turkey burgers are some of my favorites. They begin with the beautiful trio of onion, garlic, and ginger and are accented with a wide range of spices. Most ground turkey comes in 20-ounce plastic-covered trays, so I usually peel off the top, dump all the ingredients in, make patties, and throw away the package. There are no dishes to do except for the cooking pan and utensils.

Ingredients

Original recipe (1X) yields 4 servings

  • cooking spray

  • 1 (20 ounce) package 93% lean ground turkey

  • ½ medium onion, diced

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 (1 1/2 inch) piece fresh ginger, grated

  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 ½ teaspoons seasoned salt

  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin

  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander

  • 1 teaspoon chili powder

  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes

  • ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Directions

  1. Set an oven rack about 4 to 5 inches from the heat source and preheat the oven's broiler. Lightly coat a broiling pan with cooking spray.

  2. Combine turkey, onion, garlic, ginger, Worcestershire sauce, seasoned salt, Italian seasoning, cumin, coriander, chili powder, red pepper flakes, and black pepper in a bowl. Mix by hand until evenly combined; form into 4 patties and place on the prepared pan.

  3. Broil in the preheated broiler until an instant-read thermometer inserted into centers reads 160 degrees F (71 degrees C), 6 to 7 minutes per side.

Cook's Notes:

If you prefer, substitute 1 teaspoon regular salt for seasoned salt.

You can also grill or sauté the burgers.
