Food News and Trends Grocery People Are Running To Target To Get This $4 Snack—We Had to Try It But does it live up to the hype? We find out. By Terri Peters Published on August 10, 2023 Close Photo: Getty Images/Allrecipes What happens when you combine glazed donuts and protein-packed almonds? A viral TikTok food phenomenon, of course. Nearly 200 million people have watched videos about the new Glazed Donut Almonds available at Target, with some saying they’ve had to visit multiple Target locations just to get their hands on the snack due to it being sold out. Made by Target’s Good and Gather brand, the almonds come in a bright pink bag (hello, Barbie!) and have a candy-like coating that social media users are going wild for. “Go try these at Target,” urged TikTok user @brittbratt305. “When I first opened them up, I was just like, these are gonna be bomb.” But others who have taste-tested the nuts are underwhelmed. TikTok user @caileneasley said, “It’s not bad. It’s just not giving glazed donuts. It’s just giving a sweet almond." Curious about which side of the Glazed Donut Almond Debate I’d end up on, I headed to Target to pick up a bag. Here's a pro tip: Place an order for drive-up pick-up to make sure the store actually has them in stock before you drive over. We Tried the Glazed Donut Almonds at Target At first glance, the almonds looked exactly like other candied almonds I’ve had in the past, coated with a thick, sugary layer of sweetness. And the taste? Sad to say, but I, too, was underwhelmed. While they certainly didn’t taste bad, I did not get a glazed donut vibe...at all. Instead, these almonds taste like exactly what they are: almonds coated in a sugary, candy-like crust. They’re delicious, but not donut-y. After trying them, I have to give kudos to the marketing team at Good and Gather; I'm assuming the product's name is a driving factor behind its viral moment, because I don't think it's the taste. Comparing these almonds to a glazed donut is probably a stretch, but despite the misleading name, I must say, I kept going back for bite after bite. Priced at just under $4 for a six-ounce bag, they are an easy, affordable snack that would certainly make for a reliable afternoon pick-me-up, thanks to both the sugar and protein.
