Dunkin' Just Released a New Purple Sugarplum Macchiato for the Holiday Season

Anyone familiar with the famous rhyming poem associated with Christmas knows that sugarplums can dance through one's head. But have you ever even had a sugarplum? For most of us, the answer is undoubtedly no.

Though it's technically not the real thing, Dunkin' is providing us a chance to approximate the experience while also accessing a necessary dose of caffeine, all in one photogenic format. Recently, they introduced a new Sugarplum Macchiato, inspired in equal parts by the Nutcracker Ballet and Starbucks' extensive "secret menu" of color-changing drinks.

According to a press release, the namesake color comes from a combination of blueberry, raspberry, blackberry, and (of course) plum flavors. Incorporated into that are hints of vanilla and a "sweet sugary finish" to truly evoke the old-school candy that many of us have heard of but not truly tasted. Oh, and there's Dunkin espresso in there, because this is a macchiato after all. Combined, the berry-hued blend mixed with the brown of espresso makes for the kind of Insta-worthy beverage that you wouldn't normally associate with Dunkin'.

Dunkin' knows that part of the appeal with a Sugarplum Macchiato is the novelty of the concept, not to mention the fact that it expands their holiday beverage lineup. "Our Sugarplum Macchiato is a colorful twist on a well-known, but perhaps mysterious-tasting, flavor of holiday lore. It's the perfect complement to our fan-favorite holiday latte lineup and brings even more delicious cheer to the Dunkin' menu."

To complement the look of the Sugarplum Macchiato, Dunkin's also introduced a purple-iced Frosted Snowflake Donut with wintry sprinkles. If purple wasn't a festive holiday color before, it sure seems like it is now.
