Every year, my mother-in-law Kathy makes hundreds of cookies. Thumbprint cookies filled with jam, magic cookie bars, and chocolate chip cookies are the mainstays. She bakes big batches (I’ve walked into her kitchen while she’s covered in flour during this process more than once) packs them into Rubbermaid containers, and hands them out to everyone in the family. To take on such a time-consuming project, Kathy needs two essential tools: her trusty cookie scoop—and even more importantly these Calphalon baking sheets.

Reliable baking sheets are a necessity for cookies with crisp bottoms and chewy insides—and right now you can grab my mother-in-law’s favorite set of two on discount at Amazon's Big Spring Sale.

These 12 by 17-inch Calphalon baking sheets can fit three throws of three cookies at a time. The 1.5-inch lip prevents ingredients from spilling over the side as they bake, which also makes them handy for baking sheet cakes. And crucially, they are made from nonstick heavy gauge steel which is important for several reasons.

First of all, Kathy has owned these baking sheets for about 10 years, and they have yet to warp or lose their shape in any way. Their longevity is all due to that sturdy stainless steel. Steel also conducts heat well, so you’ll never get hot spots on the sheet that leave some cookies burned and others underdone. The result is nicely browned cookies baked all the way through.

The nonstick coating has stood the test of time, too. Kathy tells me that this is probably the feature that she appreciates the most about these baking sheets. Scooping each cookie off the baking sheet with a silicone spatula is a breeze—each one pulls away without leaving behind crumbs so that her cookies remain pristine and intact when she’s ready to serve them.

And since she spends hours in the kitchen making the dough, measuring out each cookie, and transferring them to the baking sheets, not to mention actually baking each batch, she has no energy left over to scrub a baking sheet until it's clean. But without much cookie residue left behind even after baking, she told me all she needs to clean them is hot water and soap—I inspected them myself and even after a decade of use they are indeed spotless.

Kathy recommends these baking sheets to anyone who is ready to invest in a set of workhorse  baking sheets that won’t need to be replaced for years to come—and I recommend taking her advice when it comes to all things baking. Just be sure to grab them now while they’re still on sale.
