In the summer, I typically store all my baking supplies in a cabinet above the oven. I live on the east coast, where temperatures typically are sweltering until the end of September. But the moment the calendar turns to October, I am ready to start baking again, and out come my Pyrex glass baking dishes (and my Pyrex measuring cup, too).

I have owned these baking dishes for around seven years now, and I can honestly say that Pyrex makes the most durable baking dishes I have ever used. And right now a set of two is just $20 (nearly half off the original price) at Amazon.

These baking dishes have the most practical and simple design, but I would take them over fancier looking ceramic or glazed baking dishes (which, incidentally, are usually much more expensive) any day. Made from thick glass, with two easy-to-grip handles on either side, this is hardworking bakeware that will get you through both weeknight dinners and big batch holiday cooking.

The set comes with a 9.5 by 15.75 by 2.5-inch large baking dish which is deep enough for almost any baked dish that you can imagine and a smaller 2-quart dish so I can make my favorite dishes in smaller portions. Glass is naturally nonstick, so usually food just slides right out of the dish, even if you’re baking something really sticky (I’ve tried it with baked mac and cheese and scalloped potatoes). Another big benefit of glass is that it's nonreactive, so your food doesn’t pick up any flavors from the pan itself, which might happen with aluminum baking dishes when you’re making brownies. And similar to stoneware, glass actually retains heat much longer than metal, so even if I take my food out of the oven 30 minutes before dinner, it doesn't get cold by the time I serve dinner.

There are two other crucial factors that set these baking dishes apart from other brands. The glass is extremely easy to clean, and it’s shown remarkable resiliency. Typically I can just wipe away any leftover food or oil with a damp sponge, but if I accidentally burn a dish and it becomes crusted onto the inside of the dish, a quick 15-minute soak does the trick. And in seven years of use, only the handles show any signs of wear and staining—the main body of the baking dishes have not chipped or cracked yet.

Even though these Pyrex baking dishes don’t come in pretty colors, and they don’t  necessarily look elegant or sophisticated on my dinner table, I think  that’s okay. For weeknight dinners, I need reliable bakeware that can fit enough food to feed my family—and don’t take serious effort to get clean at the end of the night.

These Pyrex baking dishes check all those boxes. And now that two are on sale for just $20, you’ve got a great excuse to grab them right now. I might grab some more for myself.
