It really is spicy though. I added a tiny touch of sour cream to my bowl. The sour cream toned down the spice a little. I will try this recipe again because I want to try a touch of cream cheese instead of the sour cream. So quick and simple and very tasty. And I had all the ingredients on hand. Went over well for some very picky eaters, followed recipe exactly with the exception of adding a little white wine. He suggested shrimp or imitation crab as an alternative meat or even leave the chicken and add to it. More like Gumbo. It needed a little salt in my opinion. I also would have used the spices while cooking the chicken not the vegetables so the flavor would get into the meat more thoroughly. But overall very good and very quick and easy to make. I would have liked more seasoning and used the creole seasoning recipe here on Allrecipes, so not sure if a commercial mix would have been better. I could also probably use some fresher spices. But I'd make it again. Very easy and fast to make. Helpful (0) Mary M. reviewed Bryan R’s Chicken Roche Recipe. 12/31/2011 Delicious! Used a recipe from this site for Creole Seasoning Blend. Used fresh green beans because I had some on hand. Subbed a vegetarian chicken substitute. Turned out very tasty and the picky eater I served it to liked it. The pastry sheets called for in this recipe were not very easy to work with. Too sticky. They also are not very fitting for the dish. They would be better for a dessert. The filling was okay, nothing special, but the pastry made it very odd and hardly worth eating. I highly recommend adding a little cayenne pepper - not enough to make it spicy, but just to give it some zing. If you'd like a richer sauce, you might add cream cheese or sour cream. Mushrooms are a welcome addition. I appreciated the suggestion of topping the dish with italian bread crumbs before baking. I like to sprinkle about half the chili powder directly on the chicken as I'm browning it. You can experiment with the veggies. I use frozen green beans. I also like to add a can of mushrooms and about 6oz. frozen spinach, but that's not for everyone. Finally, for anyone doing South Beach, this is Phase 1 friendly if you omit the rice. For Phase 2, use brown or wild rice. Helpful (3) French Toast 06/19/2004 This recipe is really good and easy, and you can even make it with cheap sandwich bread if that's all you have on hand. The key to this recipe is not to soak the bread too much. Put your slice in the mixing bowl, flip it right over, and then put it on the griddle. I experimented with soaking the bread more, and it ends up being soggy and undercooked. Helpful (3) French Silk Chocolate Pie II 09/09/2003 Take note! If you're mixing and mixing and your mix is still a bit soupy, put the bowl in the freezer for 10-15 minutes. Then take it out and start mixing again, and it will firm up fast! I found this out by accident and it saved the day. The pie was smooth and rich, a hit for any french silk fan! Helpful (1)
