Good recipe overall. As someone who has lived in North Carolina for 22 years and caters food, I am going to agree that TRUE vinegar based sauce has pepper flakes in it. Go to virtually any Eastern NC BBQ joint and you will see the flakes inside the container. I only use Texas Pete (my preference) due to better taste profile.
Tried this recipe for the 2nd time yesterday. My error on 1st attempt was mixing yeast with wet ingredients and salt, meaning the dough didn't rise.
Made the whole recipe the second time in the bread maker on 1.5lb loaf with medium crust. turned out very good. My 15 year old sons eyes lit up as he ate it!
Taste was really good! Cookie layer hard to spread, so I greased a spatula & spread dough out that way. May try wax paper on top and pressing down next time. Took about 33 minutes cause brownie layer was still like water at 20 minutes. I did use a dark pan which I’m sure made a difference. Waited 2 hours for them to cool while resting on cooling rack in pan. Used plastic lettuce knife to cut & turned out terrific!
Really, really good just as is. When frying potatoes, oil temp is very important to keep the oil from soaking into the potato. Make sure the temp stays above 350 while cooking. I set mine at 356 & cooked them for about 6 minutes. Doubled the recipe and it made about 45 tots
I have used this recipe for the last 5 years or so. I think its a safe bet to say that it is good! I use a large water cooler to brine the bird in to free up space in the fridge. Put a little ice in it along with brine mixture, put it somewhere cool and it will be ready for cooking in the morning.
While this recipe is good, I am giving it 4 stars because it’s not great. What I did to add to the flavor profile was add some Cabernet to the gravy and took out some beef stock to keep the liquid amount consistent. This is a basic recipe and pretty much a suggestion on how much salt, pepper & thyme to add. I did use fresh mushrooms and sliced them up myself for a better taste than canned mushrooms. With the additions, it was terrific! I even licked my plate clean (once everyone was out of eyesight) and the porterhouse steak was gone!
