Sarah's Chocolate "almond" Spread

This is very fast recipe to subtitute the popular hazelnut spreads at the store with natural ingredients. Unlike many similar recipes, it requires no pan or oven roasting of nuts, peeling, or utilizing and cleaning a food processor. I used both creamy and crunchy almond butter, but prefer the crunchy. It is easy to find at most grocery stores, near the peanut butters today. Use in recipes, calling for the store bought stuff!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup melted semi-sweet chocolate chips

  • 4 level Tablespoons of creamy or crunchy almond butter

  • 2 1/4 teaspoons of vegetable oil

  • 2 1/2 teaspoons of powdered sugar

  • 3/4 teaspoons of plain unsweetened cocoa powder

  • drop of pure vanilla extract

  • 2 small pinches of fine grain salt

Directions

  1. Melt chocolate chips in a small microwave safe container for approximately 1 minute. Stir after 30 seconds. If still not melted add 30 seconds intervals stirring each time.

  2. Once melted, in the same container, stir in the almond butter until completely incorporated. Then, mix in the rest of the ingredients well.

  3. Use as desired in recipes calling for the popular chocolate hazelnut spreads.

Cook’s Note

  • This makes a quick small 8 serving portion and was created using almond butter varieties only. For proper consistency, use only the almond butters and not fresh ground nuts. Honey may also work, for the powdered sugar, but I have not subtituted it yet.
