Fans Are Begging Taco Bell to Bring This Item Nationwide

When you think of gelato, you may think of a decadent, rich dessert enjoyed while ambling through the streets of Italy. When you think of Mountain Dew Baja Blast, you think of an aqua-colored soft drink that’s probably more acquainted with your car’s cupholder as you scarf down some road trip fast-food tacos. This is why if you’re a gelato purist, then you may not want to read on.

Taco Bell's New Mountain Dew Baja Blast Gelato

Starting today, August 31, Mountain Dew Baja Blast Gelato will be available at Taco Bell. It’s the first gelato the fast-food chain has ever released. In a press release from Taco Bell, Global Chief Food Innovation Officer Liz Matthews said, “BAJA BLAST is iconic to Taco Bell and has its own strong fandom, so introducing it in gelato form feels right. As the end of summer nears, this is the perfect treat to wrap up any Taco Bell meal.”

The new dessert will only be available at one Taco Bell location in Southern California (4101 Campus Drive, Irvine, CA 92612, to be exact), and only for a limited time. Local folks can try the menu item over the next two weeks, or while supplies last. The gelato is $2.99 and comes in a 3.6-ounce container.

Fans Have Mixed Feelings About Baja Blast Gelato

If you feel as though there’s something incongruous about Taco Bell releasing a gelato, you’re not alone. Some people on social media have said “Something about calling it gelato feels vaguely upsetting,” and in reference to the availability at a single restaurant said, “And there it can stay.” Fans, though, are mostly just upset over the lack of national availability, saying, “One location? Why you doing us dirty, T Bell?” and, “How this is not a thing in all locations is asinine.” Fans on the Taco Bell Instagram account are shouting out their own states requesting a wider release.

Taco Bell also announced that after saying goodbye to the gelato in two weeks, there’s another Baja Blast creation bubbling up this fall—but no word on what it is yet, or how divisive it will be.
