Reese’s Has a Brand New Product Inspired by a Fan Favorite Flavor Combo

In 1928, H.B. Reese, who worked for Hershey, created a confection that was perhaps a better sum of its already two yummy parts, the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup. He used Hershey's chocolate to coat the peanut butter filling, but the invention was his, and The Hershey Company bought his business in 1963.

Mr. Reese kept it simple, but Hershey has shaken things up in the peanut butter cup world for many years. The brand has turned the candy into holiday shapes, added crunchy chocolate cookie bits to the center, made a peanut butter coating, turned them into snack cakes, created an organic version, and made many other tweaks to the classic chocolate and peanut butter candy.

Reese's also played with the candy cup’s size, shrinking it to mini size, making huge 1/2-pound Reese’s Cups, and making the bigger, but more reasonably sized, Big Cups.

The brand’s latest release is a Big Cup in a flavor combination that we haven’t seen in 15 years—and one that has never been a larger size. Reese’s adds a layer of caramel under the peanut butter filling and puts it all in a 1.4-ounce Reese’s Cup, twice the size of the current traditional Reese’s Cup.

Reese’s Introduces New Caramel Big Cup

The last time caramel was in a Reese’s Cup was in 2006 when Hershey introduced Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups with Caramel. Sadly, they disappeared from store shelves at some point after that. But fans did not forget about the flavor combo and even petitioned to bring it back as recently as 2021.

The petition wasn’t the shove Hershey needed (it received just 78 signatures). Now, the company has brought the flavor back as Reese’s Caramel Big Cup, which the company describes as “a gooey layer of caramel to the already perfect peanut butter cup in a Big Cup format for the first time ever.”

The latest version of the Big Cup is officially slated to hit store shelves on Nov. 17. Some stores already have them, evidenced by photos of Big Cup “in the wild” making the rounds on social media.

What Does the Reese's Caramel Big Cup Taste Like?

Instagram’s Snack Betch posted a photo of the Caramel Big Cups in a store, and commenters said they’ve seen them both at Sam’s Club and Walmart. 

Most of Snack Betch’s followers were excited to try the new variety they “need to try!” But only a couple of people have. One said the candy has “Snickers vibes,” mentioning it has “chocolate, peanut and caramel. the only thing missing is the nougat.”

“I honestly didn’t taste the peanut butter much, so I was a little disappointed. But it was a cool idea,” said another who had just tried it.

We’ll reserve our opinion of the Reese’s Caramel Big Cup until we can try them ourselves, but we’re optimistic. We have yet to try a Reese’s variety we didn’t like!
