Dear Taco Bell, Please Bring Back These Discontinued Menu Items

Please and thank you.

Taco Bell has many go-to items on its menu to choose from that won’t break the bank. Plus, it also offers some newbies to the mix that we can’t help but try (looking at you, Churro Chillers).

However, there are some items we crave that are no longer offered and wish Taco Bell would bring back. We’re hoping that since the fast-food chain brought back the nacho fries and Mexican pizza, anything is possible.

We were curious about what others missed from Taco Bell, so we scoured the internet to see what fans wanted to see back on the menu the most. Here’s what we found.

Enchirito

Taco Bell Enchirito

Who knew a burrito mixed with an enchilada could be so good? Taco Bell did, which is why the Enchirito was originally on the menu until the '90s when it took a break and then left for good in 2013. Here, you have ground beef, cheese, and refried beans in a soft tortilla that is doused in red or green sauce, olives, and extra cheese. After being voted the item customers wanted back the most, Taco Bell listened and kept it on the menu for a bit in 2022. It later made another brief stint in 2023

Double Decker Taco

When you wanted the best of both worlds, you ordered the Double Decker Taco made with a crunchy taco shell that was wrapped in a soft flour tortilla and stuffed with beef, beans, and cheese. It first came to menus in 1995 for a limited time and was then found on the menu in 2006, but it was discontinued in 2019. It made a brief appearance last month but now is no longer available in the U.S. You’ll likely have to travel to Australia to find it or try this copycat hack.

7-Layer Burrito

If you’re a fan of the beloved seven-layer dip, there’s a good chance you’ve ordered Taco Bell’s 7-Layer Burrito once or twice back when it first hit the menu in 1993. The original version packed a tortilla with refried beans (which could also be changed to black beans), rice, tomatoes, shredded cheese, lettuce, sour cream, and guacamole. It was a popular item for those looking for meatless options. Taco Bell discontinued the original version of this burrito in 2020 but has since brought a similar item (with the same name) to menus with a vegetarian and non-vegetarian version.

Grilled Steak Soft Taco

Taco Bell

Taco Bell used to offer its soft taco stuffed with grilled steak, which was a great alternative to ground beef and, dare we say, quite tasty. It once had a lime sauce that went on the meat, cheese, and tomatoes, and then it was later switched to an avocado ranch. Either way, the Grilled Steak Soft Taco was simple but solid—and one we'd love to enjoy again.

Bell Beefer

McDonald’s and Burger King weren't the only fast-food joints selling burgers. Taco Bell did, too, with its Bell Beefer, essentially a taco served on a bun. Ground beef topped with lettuce, onions, cheese, and tomatoes all gave this item a Sloppy Joe feel, which seems strange for a Tex-Mex joint but worked for many.

Caramel Apple Empanadas

Taco Bell Wiki/Fandom

Taco Bell is all about its Cinnamon Twists for a quick and cheap dessert to enjoy after all the savory goodness. However, a while back it also used to have Caramel Apple Empanadas. Up until 2019,  you could get a flaky pastry filled with apples doused in a sweet caramel sauce for only $1, which is less than the twists of today that are priced at $1.89.

Volcano Taco

The Volcano Taco was fun thanks to its bright red shell, but it was also pretty delicious and offered quite a kick. The ground beef, Cheddar cheese, and lettuce were all smothered in what Taco Bell called its signature Lava Sauce, a spicy take on nacho cheese and also a favorite among fans. The taco and its popular sauce haven’t been seen on the menu since 2016 until both made a comeback in 2023 that only lasted for a short time.

Loaded Grillers

Anyone who favored a panini-style sandwich loved the Loaded Grillers from Taco Bell, thanks to the tortilla being grilled on a grill press. With choices of beefy nacho (ground beef, tortilla strips, and nacho cheese), chipotle chicken (chicken strips, sour cream, and chipotle sauce), or potato and bacon (sour cream and nacho cheese), these grillers had a little something for everyone. The chain removed the grillers from the menu in 2020, and many of us have been waiting for a return ever since. Some fans have seen a ground chicken version on current menus, but it may not be available in all locations.

Double Chalupa

Back in 2017, when you were really hungry, you ordered the Double Chalupa from Taco Bell, which was said to be a whopping 9 ounces. This big boy doubled every ingredient that was served inside the fried tortilla shell, which meant more beef, cheese, tomatoes, and sour cream to enjoy.

Waffle Taco

Taco Bell

Once seen on Taco Bell’s breakfast menu back in 2014, the Waffle Taco was exactly what it sounds like. A waffle folded in the shape of a taco and stuffed with eggs, bacon, or sausage and served with a side of syrup for dipping (or pouring over top). Today, the chain still has many breakfast offerings but none quite as unique as this or that mixed both savory and sweet in one.
